If you're like me, you appreciate Jean Harlow's ability to combine humor with heart and an obvious sensuality. Even more amazing, by all accounts she was actually quite child-like off-screen. (She was affectionately known to family, friends and co-stars as "The Baby.") That's quite a tribute to her true acting talents!
Jean shot to fame in the 1930s and, sadly, her life ended in that same decade. Others have since tried to imitate her, but she'll always be unique -- because underneath it all she was simply Harlean Carpenter from Kansas City, MO and no one can copy that! I hope that this page will project Harlean's charm, talent and personal warmth -- the same qualities that continue to make Jean Harlow one of the most beloved stars of all time.

Long-time Jean Harlow fan and friend of The Platinum Page, writer Jim Kaufmann, chronicles his initial introduction to lovely Jean and his ensuing adventures in researching her true life story in the wonderfully nostalgic "The Hunt For Harlow," originally published by Vox Pop Influentials, a central California magazine, in May 2006. Get started reading here.
A mural once owned by Paul Bern and Jean Harlow, depicting Jean and 16 other Hollywood notables at a Medieval-type feast, has been put up for sale on Ebay. (Second ten day listing began May 2nd.) The mural has not been seen by the public since it was removed from the Bern-Harlow home after Paul Bern's death in 1932. Read more about it here and see detailed images here.
I visited The Movieland Wax Museum in Buena Park, CA, on 10/30/2005, a day before it permanently closed. Click here to see my photo album of Jean Harlow's display there, which also includes various versions of postcards of Jean in wax.
Jean's wax likeness was auctioned off by the museum on March 11, 2006. Opening bid was $500. Final sale price: $7,250.00! See archived pages here. The winning bidder was George Krikorian who owns the Krikorian movie theatres in Southern California where he plans to display Jean and other figures he purchased. Kudos to Mr. Krikorian for keeping historic Wax Jean available for public viewing! See the Los Angeles Times news story here.
Special to The Platinum Page! Jean Harlow Historian Dennis Lee Clevens for providing a detailed accounting of The Lost & Rare Films of Jean Harlow.
The Forest Lawn Glendale page has been updated.
March 3rd marks what would have been Jean's 95th Birthday! This original tribute ran on the Platinum Page several years ago, I just found it in my archives.
I've created a special tag on my regular website's blog for posts pertaining specifically to Jean Harlow.
Happy New Year! Please visit the newest Jean Harlow website (www.jeanharlow.info), this one created by members of Jean's Carpenter side of the family! It's a wonderfully fascinating tribute to the love between Jean Harlow and her father, Mont Carpenter!
